Failed direct debit. Am I liable?

Hi all,
I emailed sports direct gym to cancel my membership and received a reply stating that the direct debit had not been collected and I was liable for some £210 of back payments (I’d not used the gym for some 7 months but am guessing this is irrelevant?).

As it appears to be a failure at their end, am I liable for this payment or does the DD guarantee cover this?

Any advice much appreciated!

Andy.

We can't tell from your post why the direct debit "failed", but whether or not payments were collected, you're liable for whatever your contract says you're liable to pay for the duration of your contract. The DD guarantee is for refunding payments collected in error from your account.
  • Thanks David, I am unsure why it failed also. I note the DD guarantee response and had come to a similar conclusion.
