salvage parts from old upvc window?

We are only replacing one window because it opens the wrong way and keep hitting kitchen tap.
I am thinking to salvage some fitting/parts from the old window in case other windows need any parts replacement. Has anyone done it before? Should I bother? If so, what parts/fittings should I remove?
Will I have any trouble disposing the rest of window and frame? (it's a 1.2m x 1.5m upvc window)

Hi,
keep handles and keys, strip off anything else you can and store away for 'maybe need that someday'.
You can take the glass out, it's only held in by beading, might be handy someday, and cut the frame into easy to manage sizes for disposal.0 -
If the old window is the same make as your others, unscrew the 'gearbox' from behind the handles. I've had a couple of these go, and had to leave window unlocked for a week while sourcing new ones.0

Many Thanks.
I've stripped off all the metal parts now.
Is there a simple way to cut the frame for disposal? (hacksaw at anywhere?)
Is it worth keep the rubber seal?0 -
Hi,
I would saw at corners, then you've got straight lengths, save the seals and store in the 'window spares' box with the other stuff.0 -
I'd also keep the beading. And before sawing anything, check to see if the sash frame is the same size as any of the other windows in the house. Ditto the sealed units.
In fact I'd just keep the whole window stored at the back of a shed/garage. :money:"In the future, everyone will be rich for 15 minutes"0 -
Chuck the beading. It deteriorates with age and wont be suitable for new windows. Highly unlikely that the hinges etc will be the same as your new window, ditto handles etc.
Save the parts now, by all means so that you can throw them out in 3 years time.Eat vegetables and fear no creditors, rather than eat duck and hide.0 -

The responses above were on the basis the parts might fit other existing windows in the house, not the new one being installed now.
