The thing is, our recycle bin has been on the edge of the pavement (such as it is) for weeks. Anyone could have put stuff in it as they took a shortcut through, thinking it better than littering. Around about June (yes, it is always a PITA) they turned up, looked in the bin and walked off. If I had not been there, they would not have told me it was 'contaminated' (Actually DH hadn't got the difference between biodegradable and recyclable and put a short bit of wood in). I took the offending article out, said 'not contaminated now' and if looks could kill I would have been cremated around about July!!!!
I would never have known there was a problem in June if I had not actually been in the street. There could be a problem now, but I don't know.
If I was Victor Meldrew I could get all ranting about it, but it is such a small niggle on the scale of things.Always another chapter0 -
We had a situation where one of our bins wasnt emptied-it turned out someone else had put a large item in causing the lid to be open by a few inches-then they took a photo as proof and refused to empty it.0

At least you got told what the problem was!
I have to say that our regular bin men are brilliant.Always another chapter0 -
I realise this is trivial, but I have to get it off my chest.
I have phoned 4 times since 29 Oct to try and get the council to empty the recycle bin - giving them plenty of time to sort it out. The ordinary binmen are great, no complaints at all, but our recycle bin should be emptied every month, and I always have to call at least twice.
This time when I was told yet again that it would be passed on to the collection team, I asked who I should make a complaint to (I was nice to the person on the end of the phone - they aren't the ones failing to empty the recycle bin, but I was pretty fed up). So I got passed to the Complaints Department.
Now, they are going to see why the recycle bins are not being collected but, and this is almost word for word, I wish I had taped it, 'they will not sort out the problem, as that would make a mockery of the complaints department. If they sorted out every problem that came in it would waste everyone's time. They will send me an explanation of why my recycle bin is not being emptied within fifteen days.'
I am still a little stunned that the complaints department will not sort out a problem, but will send me an explanation within fifteen days. TBH I am not expecting much from that, more a lame fob off. And the odds are I will still not have my recycle bin emptied! BTW it is the whole street that is affected not just me, and I know that others have rung in to ask for the recycle bins to be emptied.
I know that there are far worse things in this world than not having the recycle bin emptied, and it is just a minor irritation, but I can't get over a complaints department that will not sort out a complaint - that admits it!
I will be in touch with my councillor, who is a member of the Green Party.
Baffled rant over.
Go to local paper......... They always love a bit of council bashing:rotfl:
If your lucky you will get your bin collected more often and a nice picture on page 4.....;)0 -
Someone actually called me back!!!!
And they were really nice!!!
And this morning - the bin got emptied :j:j:j:j:j:j
My little one was poorly so I didn't get a chance to go out, try to be nice and just ask informally if there was a problem.
Next collection is supposed to be 26 November - I may have to update this thread :rolleyes:Always another chapter0 -
Can I suggest contacting your local councillor. They are there to represent their constituents. If the whole street formulated a letter and each signed it/ or better still sent seperate letters you may find they are able to sort this matter out.0

Eventually last month the councillor got the bins emptied.
Recycle bin failed to be emptied on due date yesterday - surprise surprise!
So today I have rung up and spoke to a really nice guy who is going to try and get it emptied etc etc.
I have given them til Monday to sort it out before going back to my councillor.
Just can't get the full power of righteous indignation behind it because it is only a bin full of cardboard - but it is a bit irritating.
And what is worse, when I speak to those in the council offices, they are really nice and helpful. I managed a bit of a luke warm rant, but my heart wasn't really in it because the person on the phone was lovely and it wasn't their fault.
SighAlways another chapter0 -
Yes, they have actually emptied the bin today! :j:j:j:j:j only four days late.
What I don't understand is why it is such hard work just to empty the dratted things.
It is the whole of the (very small) street that is affected. I suspect that because it is a very small street off a very busy main road we just get forgotten.
Then I have to turn into Mrs Hitler again! Sigh.
If they start charging then I really will be Mrs Hitler on them
