Buying a car privately

Recently when we bought a car privately I paid by bank transfer at the sellers house, when I sold our old car I went to our local bank where the buyer handed the cash to the staff who fed it through a machine and credited it to my account.
Both methods are fairly risk free IMO.0 -
When I bought my current car privately I viewed the car which was less than ten miles away and the seller took me for a test drive. We agreed the price, she drove me to my house and I went online to do the transfer which she checked on her phone. I then drove her back home. Sort of two way verification! That was 5 and a half years ago and the car is still going well.0
