Debit card scanned and used - comeback?

I had a phone call from Halifax today stating my debit card had been used in Ireland (i live in SE England) at cashpoint machines for the last two days and someone has drawn out £581 of my money. It looks like it has been cloned. They have quickly cancelled the cards but what is going to happen about the money already withdrawn? Do banks reimburse for this type of thing?
I would just like to congratulate Halifax on their VERY quick response to this - i would probably have been completely cleared out before i had noticed.

Did they or you not mention this when questioned?
Have you checked your accounts to see if this is the case?
Are you sure it was not a phising call - did you have to answer security questions or confirm your card number at all?0 -
Sorry to hear about your loss, you really need to ask Halifax and their response will depend on the outcome of their investigation. Some banks take a hard line, claiming chip and pin is secure :rotfl: and user must have been careless. Others are more understanding."A nation's greatness is measured by how it treats its weakest members." ~ Mahatma Gandhi

Thanks - when i spoke to them yesterday they did say i am ALMOST guaranteed my money back, the thing is the amount of money stolen so close to Christmas is worrying. I have to phone them up today and hopefully there will be some good news.0
