Even a N4200 is faster than your T9600 according to cpu benchmark

The only thing i would say you insist the replacement laptop should have an internal blu-ray drive and don't accept an external drive.

Since it probably no longer exist, they probably need to go down the customise laptop route. Then you have a chance end up with a better laptop rather than cheap £300 laptop with external blu-ray.

    Unfortunately, not.
If we cannot repair your Product you will be given a voucher to obtain a replacement in one of our stores. The value will be based on an equivalent or similar specification product up to a maximum of your original Product purchase price. At our discretion, a replacement product may be given instead of a voucher.

It's just too painful for me to read the OP....from a money saving point of view.
He is not going to be happy with their offer. I hope I am wrong on that matter.

There's no way that can happen, they've already told me on the phone that it is now "obsolete technology" in their store.

My issue is if they still sold laptops with Blu-ray drives I would have very likely received a higher voucher value. A Blu-ray RW drive is expensive and very much a luxury feature that I paid for when choosing my current laptop (that is now written off).

About a year ago, PCWorld were still selling Blu-ray laptops but only for their expensive gaming ones. At least then I could have fought over it to get £1000, but now they'll give me half that because they don't have to include the drive for a like-for-like model.

You can still buy laptops with Blu-ray drives from other companies, just not with Currys / PCWorld.

You could keep the blu-ray drive from your old computer and put it in the new one, it's highly likely they both have a SATA connection.

Some things you might have on your side are the screen size(don't accept less) and the fact that it was supplied with 8GB of RAM. Also that is has a separate graphics adaptor.

This way, you are left with a 17.3" Full HD screen, 8GB of RAM and dedicated graphics. Also card reader and Bluetooth.
Don't let them off the hook. They took a lot of your money, for nothing.

Or, you could get the best laptop they can offer you, buy yourself a used graphics card (same model, I'm sure you can find at least one on eBay), and that leaves you with two working laptops (if the graphics card is indeed what's broken).

Although there's nothing I can find in their Ts&Cs, I don't know whether I can get my laptop back? They will no doubt use it for parts to fix other laptops. Even if I did get it back I don't think it would fit in the new one. Laptops are a lot thinner these days.

Thank you. That's exactly what I've been looking at. They don't offer 16.4" screen laptops, so I can only settle for 17.3". I'll have to see which ones offer card readers; that's something I definitely used too.

Yes, laptops are thinner, and that's why the thin ones don't have a DVD drive at all. I would try, personally, 90% it's the same thickness.

Card readers are commonplace. Concentrate on a Full HD screen, 8 GB of RAM and a dedicated graphics card and a HD webcam. Hopefully you'll get a PCIe SSD in the mix. But I can imagine they will come up with a poor first offer.
  • Just received a text message from KnowHow with my voucher code. Doesn't even tell me how much :wall:

I guess they expect customers to accept a replacement straight from the store without doing their research.
  • Ok so I phoned KnowHow who confirmed my voucher code is for £750, which is the lowest end I could see when checking their online stores for a like-for-like laptop.

I explained my situation and they tried checking their business store for a Blu-ray drive or laptop, but with no luck.

I also requested my broken laptop back (so I could try taken the Blu-ray drive out), but they don't allow that once it has been written off. They can only give you back the hard drive.
