Old electrics but want a new kitchen

We had a partial rewire on a 1960s house we have bought and intend to live in until we drop (hopefully a long time). It's a 4 bedder and took the best part of a fortnight, even though we had no furniture in at the time. It's certainly something that we wanted doing before we move in due to the disruption. The electrician knew we wanted it to be safe for the long term so did everything he felt needed replacing and left what he was confident was still in good condition and should see us out (hopefully another 40 years).Make £2025 in 2025

Depends on the length of the cable and distance from the consumer unit. Whilst 6mm² would be suitable for most installations, 10mm² might be required.
As for ovens, some are hard wired in and require a 16A supply. Using a 13A plug & socket would be foolish in this instance.0 -
I'd rather have one lone kitchen cabinet, loose, in the corner of the kitchen ... and a proper/full rewire .... than have a nice looking kitchen that's a potential death trap, or that causes future problems, or that puts people off buying the house when I want to sell at some future time because "it needs doing".
I've always favoured "structure over niceties".0 -
Get a rewire done, rather than couple of years after fitting the new kitchen where you might have to rip it all out again.
Especially if you need new sockets or are moving them. Also check the type of existing wiring in place.0 -
You cant really rewire until you are sure where you want the oven, washer, ect, so make sure your happy with the layout or you will end up redoing it again.0
