Selling US shares from the UK

My father recently passed away. He worked for IBM for over 30 years, during which time he accumulated a number of US listed shares, worth c.£100k. I am the sole executor of the estate and I have the grant of Probate in place. I am trying to understand what I have to do to sell these US shares from the UK. Can anyone help?

Do you have physical share certificates for them (all)?

Any correspondence to go with them, to suggest if there's a share registrar that he dealt with?

Perhaps drop a line to the HR or Pensions departments at IBM? If the shares were routinely handed out as an employee benefit in lieu of salary, they might be able to point you in the right direction...
