'Q' - Query showing on old account

Options
I will be going for a mortgage in the next few months, and I am trying to clear up a few items on my credit file.

I have a settled account with Littlewoods. It was always paid on time. I have no late payments or anything showing on my report.

Under the settled Littlewoods credit agreement for one month there is a 'Q' indication - query.

What does this mean? I have checked my bank statements and this was always paid on time.

Would this affect me getting a mortgage? Should I raise a dispute with Equifax? As it was paid on time, surely that month should be "green" as in paid like all the previous months.

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

  • You need to speak to Equifax.

The query could be there for any number of reasons.
  • A query means that some or all of the balance owed under the agreement was disputed.

I don't think you should worry about this at all - the account is settled, the query is presumably not recent, and a query is a neutral account status rather than a negative one. Lenders are in the same position as you in not knowing why the query flag is there and so really aren't going to use the information in their decision.
  • Thanks very much.

Basically after several phone calls yesterday, Littlewoods confirmed that there were no late payments on my account.

The Query relates to Littlewoods mistakenly putting a £12 late payment fee on my account back then. This was disputed and they removed it.

From what I have read a 'Q' is a neutral bearing, and Equifax have said this will not effect any mortgage application. They have confirmed my file is in a good standing.

I am still a bit miffed that month isn't showing as 'green' like the proceeding months, as this was an error on Littlewoods' part.

At the end of the day the query is 5 years old. Probably not even worth my time making the calls yesterday and I should just leave it?

When lenders submit a query or similar flag, they don't also report the account's position (number of payments down). Think of it the other way around - if you weren't paid up because you were querying the debt, you wouldn't want them to report you as one payment behind until the query was resolved.

Yes, I would just move on if I were you - it sounds like your credit history is fine :)
