Suggest looking at areas like Bonnybridge, Longcroft and Kilsyth. All within 20 mins of Grangemouth and very affordable.
All have great transport links and are pretty much equidistant to Glasgow and Edinburgh.

Happy to answer any specific questions on those areas.

Thank you so much, I will have a look and take you up on your kind offer :)

A beautiful upmarket village called Dollar, right next to the hills so you can really live the outdoor life.

Or just along the road is Tillicoultry, which might be less upmarket but has a half-hourly bus service to Stirling and Alloa.

An important issue not mentioned is schools. Assuming any little Trish-os won't be going to Dollar Academy (£13 - 30k fees depending on age and boarding), Clacks Council have only 3 secondary schools and are cutting back on class hours to reduce costs. Some Stirling schools are good but some have very 'mixed' catchment areas.
A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.

Thanks, the kids have left home now and it'll just be hubby and myself with a couple of spoiled pooches!
  • Bits of Fife may be scruffy, but you could look at Culross, Limekilns, Crossford, Charlestown, for smallish communities with easy access to Grangemouth and plenty of dog walking opportunities.

Thanks Dorian1958, I'll have a look at those too :)
  • Some good suggestions there. If you are looking for rural and close to Grangemouth, you could do worse than Linlithgow or nearby Blackness, a wee village on the Forth coast. Very pretty and historic and about 15 mins drive to Grangemouth. PM me if you would like more info about the area. I also know someone with a bungalow for sale later this year and could put you in touch if you are interested.

Thanks Rural Puppy, it looks a lovely area. If you can let me have details when the bungalow is for sale, I would be very grateful. Thanks again, Trish

Mirror the above comments, my personal preference would be to avoid Bo'ness and grangemouth itself, I'm not a fan of either.

Bo'ness has very affordable housing, but its affordable for a reason.

if you could stretch to say 40 mins commute, (28 miles) callandar is a lovely place that would suit your outdoor life and close to Stirling for your main shop

Thanks Andy597, much appreciated. We may have to widen our search a bit.
