Please Help - Don't Know What To Do.

Please can any one help. i don't know what do do.

I've had some heaters installed that has not been done right.

Does one of the consumer acts apply? Not sure which one.

A friend said it might be classed as an inherent fault.

When I complain we are ignored.

Thank you so much.

  • Is the installation wrong or are the items faulty?

    Who are you complaining to?

Who purchased the items from the shop, the fitter or you? Were they bought from a third party or the manufacturer?

What is wrong with the items

The installation is wrong, eg. inaccessible switches, under powered storage heaters, coloured wires showing.

We have complained to the company, think the fitter was a sub contractor. trading standards of little help, they are now so under funded.

The fitter just turned up with them.

The heaters keep on showing error, which we think is maybe a wiring error.

    Do the consumer acts apply?

    Thank you so much.

The Consumer Rights Act 2015 will be the relevant legislation. It is for almost all consumer issues these days.

Remember your rights are against whoever you paid. Not the manufacturer or the subcontractor who did the install.
    If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.

How do we use The Consumer Rights Act 2015?

Is it down to the main contractor or subcontractor if the work is substandard?

Payment was to the main contractor.

The heaters are under powered, so wrong model, and coloured wires are showing.

    Thank you so much.

I think the main contractor obtained the heaters from the manufactures.

Payment was to the main contractor.

The main contractor organized the fitter, so he would be a sub contractor. His work was never checked.

No response regarding claims - think they hope we will give up on it all.

    Thank you so much.

How did you pay? That's important.

You need to write to the main contractor, explaining the faults and how you would expect them rectified.

If they ignore you, then depending on how you pad changes your options. You could initiate a chargeback on a debit card, a section 75 claim on a credit card, or if you transferred money you will need to go down the small claim route

"Payment was direct from the grant people to the installation company"
  • Speak to the grant company. They may be unhappy to have paid for substandard work.
  • Did you get a certificate when the work was complete? Did the installer notify the local building control body?
If not you can now report them for not abiding by the regulations.
