Morgage DIP Declined - Electoral Roll

Options
Hi there!

My partner and me last month applied for a joint DIP for a morgage with Nationwide however got declined with very little information from the advisor. He requested both of us to contact Equifax and Call Credit to discuss with them why we were declined. We did so directly on the phone and were advised to pay a subscription to access our credit files, cheeky but not entirely unexpected.

Both our scores were 'Average' and the only red mark being electoral register. It had us both down as not on it for year 2018/19 which of course we are and had a recipt to prove it. I called them to advise there was a mistake and they said that I need to get evidence from the Powys electoral committee to prove it. I then contact the committee and they advised that Equifax had not yet purchased a copy from them for this year and they were having this issue from many people. I got my letter and called Equifax back, they came back to say that the price that the local electoral committee was asking for the register was over what is set out in the electoral commissions guidelines which is why they had not yet obtained the register.

They requested I upload the evidence and wait for a response, a few days later came back to me to say that they could not accept evidence relating to the electoral register and I could only add a credit note onto my file, this may or may not be viewed by the company offering credit during there credit check and would still show us a 'Not on the Electoral Register'.

We have our deposit in place, both work fulltime and thankfully earn a relativly good wage yet our chances of securing a morgage seem to be at the hands of two companies at war.

Is this normal and what can we do to get things moving?

My family have suggested going elsewhere as Nationwide seem unable to help us but my concern is we may be declined again and I'd rather fix this problem first.
