  • Thanks for all your replies. So yes, when they say they are " ready " to make an interim distribution, "ready" could still mean 6 weeks after they get our bank details if they are dealing with other cases. Oh well. And does anyone know if they usually forewarn you of the day they will make the transfer or do you just have to keep checking your account in hope? Do they send out any official letters usually in advance? Or after?
Who knows? Just guesswork. Every firm is different.
  • Plus they may be ready to distribute but you will then have to have evidence of ID sorted before an acceptable registered person....

Add it to your Christmas budget & do not plan for it for your summer holidays.

Well, the solicitors handling the sale of my mother's home kept me very well informed, but that was mostly because I used to bump into the partner involved on the train several times a week ... plus he's someone I know so I used to ask if it was OK to talk shop briefly ... :rotfl:

Have never had to use one for probate so cannot comment on that process, would still say that the only way to find out is to phone and ask.

There will still be a fee but maybe at a lower rate !

No, not if you speak to a secretary and they can give the answer - and many can.
Googling on your question might have been both quicker and easier, if you're only after simple facts rather than opinions!

You clearly don’t understand how most solicitors DO charge but at a lower rate than for more senior staff.

Whilst many of the observations of the speed ( or lack of) some solicitors work at on this thread are true, I think that if they have specifically informed you that they are ready to make an interim distribution and have asked for bank details the payment should be expedited relatively quickly.

Just to add to my previous post on this - out of the blue, a large sum was deposited in my current account yesterday (a lot more than I was expecting!!) -I've had no further communications from the solicitors since Jan/ but it means the money arrived just over 6 weeks after the letter asking for proof of identity and my bank details.
Just hope they haven't c**ked up and want some back:rotfl:
