Neighbour refusing to pay for garden wall

The neighbour obviously wants a free wall or fence or enjoys the legal power he has over you in this situation. I would not build an expensive wall unless the neighbour has agreed in writing to pay for half of it, unless you want to risk having to pay for all of it. Even if you want to pay for all of it I would still wait for their permission as if they want to be really awkward they could insist on you demolishing any wall you build if its design gives them a problem.
Go by your solicitor's advice on these matters. You will have a contract with them for any advice they give and could seek redress if the get it wrong.0 -
Don't forget that neighbors issues have to be declared when you sell your house.
Could cost you nothing, could cost you 10K or more. Is it worth it? Has the neighbor caused any trouble apart from this?
Pick your battles with neighbors. Might be easier and cheaper to laugh off one of life's many idiots, and put up a fence.0
