Dishwasher Advice Needed

My mother bought a Beko dishwasher from ao.com 18 months ago. It was a couple of months outside of its year warranty when it started leaking badly. I noticed the door had actually rusted and wasn't sitting on the seal so contacted ao.com.
They did pay half of engineer call-out costs from Beko, who paid for a new door, but that made no difference and now none of the programmes run. A second engineer (sent free) examined and declared that the machine was not worth repairing. Beko arranged with ao for a replacement but ao no longer stock said dishwasher and have told my mother she'll have to choose a replacement from their existing stock.
Trouble is, they say she is going to have to pay the price difference (at least an extra £50) having already paid £40 for the failed repair. I know she had a year's use out of it but not entirely happy with this scenario as the original dishwasher was, IMO, not fit for purpose when first purchased (white goods of that age should not be rusting). Can she refuse to accept their offer and demand her money back?

She's no way entitled to a full refund after 18 months of use from the machine. AO.com's offer is more than reasonable and exceeds your rights under the law.

Basically, no. The seller gets to choose the remedy - repair, replace or refund - and any refund, after 6 months, can be reduced to reflect the usage since purchase. Personally I would accept their offer and choose a new machine.

Perhaps she might chose a different make. In my experience Beko are well designed, but manufactured too cheaply.
The comments I post are my personal opinion. While I try to check everything is correct before posting, I can and do make mistakes, so always try to check official information sources before relying on my posts.

Reads as Beko not AOL the vendor supplying the refund under warranty .( they have no obligation to do this )

    Consumer Regulations .

One that action would be against AOL not Beko .
Two they are entitled to ask for an independant report on your above claim .
Three even then not entitled to full refund .
  • Thanks for all replies, I'll advise her accordingly
