Retrieving Old Emails

An organisation insist they sent me an Email back on the 19th December 2018, but I have no record.

I've asked for a copy of the Email and they seem to have written it with the Email correctly inserted, but there's no record in any of my folders or in the delete or Spam folder.

There's seems to be no problem with receiving Emails from the same address in my recent correspondence, and I can't remember having problems receiving Emails from any non spammers over the past few years. I use Windows Live mail.which backs up the messages on a Gmail web Email service.

I have written another Email for which they have no record, and have failed to respond to a postal letter with a copy of the Email. They also claim to have sent me a voicemail for which there is no record, although this is 2 months ago (my only voicemail is with O2 Voicemail 901)

Is there any legitimate explanation for this anomaly?

dodgy organisation? Use a tracked+signature postal service.
Regarding checking email, goto webmail for your provider (e.g. https://www.live.com if you have a Microsoft email) and search there.

There are many reason why emails supposedly sent are not received, since email is not a guaranteed transfer mechanism. The same applies to letters sent through the post by the ordinary method (not special delivery).

That said, the overwhelming majority of emails and letters get delivered successfully, but there are always a (very?) small number of exceptions. Sometimes the email gets delivered, but to a Junk or Spam email folder, justifiably or not.

Hence the sentence preceding the one you quoted!
