Last week bought Tesco toilet rolls. Film packaging "recycle with carrier bags". This week new packaging "not currently recyclable". I thought supermarkets were supposed to be getting more green.

At least they weren't recycled toilet rolls.0

Tesco home delivery.
Since the carrier bag charge came into effect, they bag some of the shopping in smaller, handleless bags. I could at least re-use carrier bags but the smaller ones I find fairly useless. A step backwoods for me.0 -
A lot of this packaging can be recycled and it's down to the recycling depot if its possible or not due to not all being capable, they can't put on the packaging anything but not recyclable or check with recycler.0

A bit of a fail me thinks https://www.independent.co.uk/news/business/tesco-ban-non-recyclable-plastic-packaging-2019-single-use-bags-a8365976.html“We will work with our suppliers to redesign and reduce all packaging materials and, after consultation with our leading suppliers earlier this year, we will remove all packaging that is hard to recycle from our business by 2019.”0 -
Second purchase may be old stock.0

Recyclable plastic film can be put in the container in store in Tesco and other supermarkets. The previous packaging was clearly marked as recyclable with carrier bags, the current packaging is marked not currently recycled. Clearly different from your assertion.
I've just been through a discussion with another supermarket with the exact same wording on the packaging as we supply them. The packaging is fully recyclable and we recycle any damaged packs. Unfortunately they can only do so much if the centres aren't set up to recycle. Funnily enough when it mentioned being possible to recycle with the carrier bags theres a chance the bags aren't being recycled either. If they're going in specific bins for them the chances increases but in your usual recycling bin at home they might not be. So theres a chance they had no option to change it as it was slightly misleading. Not Currently Recycled. This logo lets us know that this part of the packaging is only being!recycled!by 20% of councils. We would recommend that you still check with your local council as to whether this material is being!recycled!in your area, as it does!not!definitively mean it's!not recycled.0 -

There are disagreements about whether recycling plastic is worthwhile.
Plastic isn't a scarce resource; it generally costs more in financial and resource terms to recycle it than disposing of it in other ways.
https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2018/10/19/plastic-becoming-expensive-recycle-councils-say-giant-waste/:Plastic is becoming too expensive to recycle, councils across Britain will warn on Saturday, raising fears that homeowners' efforts to sort through their waste may be futile.
The warning by the Local Government Association comes as the Telegraph reveals mountains of plastic waste are sitting on an abandoned airfield because the local council cannot afford to send it to be recycled.
The LGA, which represents more than 400 councils across Britain, is demanding that manufacturers contribute more towards the increasing cost of recycling.
Otherwise, they say, local authorities will no longer be able to afford to keep processing it.
Plastic recycling waste has been building up in the UK since China introduced importing restrictions last year, with the situation now so bad that councils have started cutting plastic recycling services.
This newspaper on Friday reported that Swindon Borough council became the first to say it wants households to put mixed plastic items, such as yogurt pots and plastic trays, in the bin with regular waste.0 -
Good work guys. I'm all for recycling and holding these companies to account.0

When we're all trying to use less plastic, it's frustrating that some items are still double wrapped in plastic. Eg I buy half a cucumber, it's wrapped in cling film, with another plastic covering.
Items such as this shouldn't need any plastic covering!0
