Still not received my Welcome pack from Utilita and if they're not quick enough with it they'll need to change it to a "Goodbye Pack" because I initiated a switch back to ScottishPower a fortnight or so ago... not went smoothly but they've managed to get the gas switched over but not the electricity, so SP's re-applied to switch over electricity again.............if Utilita writes to me and asks me why I left them feedback, I'll need to say its because I love standing charges so much ! lol

    :rotfl:

    Goodbye Pack, I like that!

I'm awaiting my frinds Octopus account to be up and running so I can switch to them and gain £50 for myself and my friend
Aspiring to be financially independent.... from my parents!
  • I do believe that prices are the same for Utilita, whether on credit or prepay meters. If this is true, I advise you to move rather quickly.

Nope, they're different. However, all the comparison sites use the prepay rates when calculating costs, meaning they can give completely incorrect totals.

The link to the detailed breakdown of tariffs is at the bottom of the main quote page of their site, but is very well hidden.
  • Is anyone else having problems switching from Utilita (as a former Our Power customer)? My gas switch went ok but they leeping blocking the electricity switch which I don't understand. I have been waiting for 4 weeks for a response to my complaint (I have sent a `chase' email in between) and they have not responded. They couldn't even get my name right when they signed me up from Our Power and I think, as a result, I can't create an account so I don't know where I am but they are taking money from my account. It has been a total nightmare and I have now told them if I don't hear by Friday I am escalating it to the Ombudsman. I have to say Octopus (who I am switching to) have been amazing. I am furious about this as we had no choice who we moved to and had I been a bit quicker I would have already set the the move to Octopus in motion before Out Power went bust

    Hi jacandsi

I initiated a switch away from Utilita on 7th February to ScottishPower, like you, the gas switched over ok on the 23rd February as scheduled but the Electricity didn’t. When I spoke to Scottish Power they couldn’t tell me why the Electricity hadn’t switched over but agreed to re-apply. Problem was, I had to wait another 14 days cooling off period which I didn’t need but it did go through the second time.

How often have you re-applied for an Electricity switch?

looking at these posts with alarm as several of us in the same block of flats were transferred to Utilita with no warning by Ofgem. it has pretty much been chaos ever since with phone calls not getting through and emails not being replied to. Lots of us got demand letters for 'debits'. Mine was estimated meter reading of a factor of ten too much ( I'm not growing marijuana - honest ! ) so was sweating that £315 plus was going to get removed from my bank account as I have signed a DD. I have been sending in my meter readings every since I was transferred.

Our Power was such a good idea and I hear about ten or more companies have gone bust in the last year. That feels like lack of diligence by regulators - would that be Ofgem too? I emailed them to inform them the company they had authorised to take us on was not doing the job and got the usual 'shoulder shrug' by way denial of it being anything to do with them. Grinds teeth.

Am in Scotland so am hoping for a mooted Scotgov solution in a national energy company but until then anyone got a recommendation or two? Not the big six please.
  • Hi bonus20, I have lost count now of the number of times Octopus have tried to resolve this. They have just tried again a few days ago and it has once again been blocked - that is now almost 3 months. I have also complained to Utilita and they have not bothered responding  I am absolutely fuming and totally scunnered by it all. I will now take it to the Ombudsman (I am also inhappy that Utilita has taken 2 payments from my account which I did not authorise and had no warning of!). I cannot wait to get away from them. :(

We received a tariff letter yesterday, which is now called Control. We've a price hike of £1,054.07 per annum. Anyone found a decent replacement for "Our Power" yet?

Stick with the Big 6 - you won't go far wrong with them :)

MSE has 3 suggestions in this week's email, one being BG Energy Plus Protection Green May 2020
(only available from certain comparison sites)
it's the cheapest fix MSE suggests, and is the cheapest of all 3 if you exclude possible cashback/bill credit

... and it offers 'free' heating cover for 12 months (unless you already have that cover from BG) :money:

    Hi jacandsi
Sounds like complaining is the only route to go for you here. I'd suggest keeping good records of all your contacts with Utilita. I'm experienced on complaining with Scottish Power and the key point with them is to get a complaints reference number from theem if Utilita is similar, get a reference number from them..

Hearing your story, I'm glad I've got away from Utilita, but when I was checking them out, I found that Ofgem had fined them for blocking their customers from switching to other suppliers, so they're a bad lot.
