Although people with higher status get priority, we minions can also get upgraded if they are overbooked in Economy and lightly loaded in J (and F).
My partner and I are only BAEC Blue, but we got upgraded from PE to J - along with about a dozen other passengers - when we flew back from Montreal a couple of years ago.
And it certainly had nothing to do with the way we were dressed, because they upgraded people at the gate, simply calling people up by name and giving us new boarding cards.0 -
I'd have preferred winning the lottery to our family upgrade -no. 17 is wrong IME. Here's my posts from Oct 2014.
Myself, my 10 year old and my 8 year old were upgraded this summer - not on BA. So 3 people upgraded, 2 of them kids. I was wearing trainers and denim crops. Kids were wearing hoodies.
I joined the frequent flyer scheme before we flew - first flight ever with the airline.
No rhyme nor reason to it - just very grateful!
The flight was full - could have been upgraded as we were nice to check in lady. The check in staff were yelling at each other about seating groups together and releasing seats and others taking them. I just smiled and said something like it sounds like a busy flight. Let her resolve seating issues with colleagues whilst checking me in and was just generally nice and pleasant to her as it seemed like she was having a horrid day. I didn't want to moan or whinge at her for taking as long as she did as it would have made her day worse.
Next thing I know we're getting new tickets at the boarding gate - I thought we'd been reissued seats and split up due to the seating issues I saw at check in. I said how I hoped I was still sitting with my kids and she apologised that I wasn't anymore, but we'd been upgraded to business class, if that was okay, and she promised to look after the kids for me on the flight.
So not only did we all have a business class seat each, I had a business class seat with 2 sets of curtains and a galley between my kids and I, as business was over 2 cabins. Sheer bliss!!!!!!
It was with Gulf air, not the most amazing airline in the world, but I'm really not complaining as my £515 economy return to Bangkok was a steal in late July. And then they upgraded us.Who made hogs and dogs and frogs?
