dubai in february / holiday in feb / GOA

Hello,

been looking to find a weeks holiday in february from either the 15th (in the evening) 16th or 17th of feb for a week. Not too bothered about location but would like it to be as cheap as possible so that I can go on another holiday later in the year.

the cheapest place, supposively hot place that i could find going from my local airport (bristol)was Hammamet - Monastir - Tunisia for 257 half board which seems pretty good, does anyone on here think tunisia will be hot in february? has anyone been before?

then i decided to look at other "guaranteed sunshine" places from london and i found dubai for under 500 for the week, i decided to look into this and found booking the flights seperately with lastminute.com they are about 279 and you can get the hotel for at the very cheapest with flights 370 for 6 nights (through last minute the total for 7 days was £422)

dubai is always somewhere ive liked to go, but i was wondering how much spending money i would need for a 6 day/7 day break in dubai, doing a couple of tours etc but mainly money for food in the hotel etc.

The name of the hotel that I have found to be the most reasonable is Jonrad Hotel (previously the Conrad Hotel), does anyone have any information or review on it, and its location in dubai? i hear it may not be near the beach.

also if anyone knows anyone with a villa somewhere hot like in the canaries or something on the same dates i may also be interested, just would like a hot holiday in feb.

many thanks for your replies

  • Have been to Tunisia in feb and it wasn't too hot around 62 from around 11am til 3pm.
You could try looking the Dubai hotel up on trip advisor. You can eat very cheaply in the food courts in the malls in Dubai.

  • thanks for the reply, do you have any other suggestions for hot places in february at a reasonable price? do you know how hot it is in dubai in feb? I read the internet climate things but its always good to speak to people in person to find out!

    thanks
  • I have been to Dubai twice this year - Jan and May and will be returning in Feb next year. The temp in Feb will be about 25. If you want to eat in the hotel it will cost you loads - best bet is to eat in the malls food court - apprx £5 for a meal and a drink In the hotel about £40 each.
Trips can be arranged in the hotel, I paid £20 for a half day city tour which included the museum and creek and souk tour.
Look on trip advisor dubai forum.

Agree with Tunisa, warm about 18 to 20 C, mainly between 11am - 3pm, love Hannamet, one of the nicest areas.

What about the Canaries, there suppose to be warm all year round.
xx rip dad... we had our ups and downs but we’re always be family xx
  • thanks for the price guide mummymania, i wonder why the price varies so much between the hotels and the food malls?
this is the link to the cheapest hotel i could find, http://www.jonradhotel.com/aboutus.html nothin bad about it written on trip advisor though there are only 3 comments on it, do you know anything about this location?

I realise the hotel is in the city area of dubai but it does say that the hotel also provides complimentary beach and city transfers?

How big is dubai anyway? and how far is the city from the beach? just trying to get a feel for it before booking,

how much spending money do you think on average a couple would need for a week?

    thanks again
  • The price varies so much because most things are very expensive in Dubai for the tourists. The malls are cheaper becuase its for the locals too. Taxis are incredibly cheap. Dubai is very big and very spread out over approx 20+ miles.

You are quite central with this hotel but its still a taxi journey to the beach or shops.

I took £700 with me the first time and £1000 the second.

about the best time of year for goa and it remains cheap when you are there.

www.weather.com covers most places with average temps etc
    www.tripadvisor.com for reviews
i was in tunisia last year and weather avriable, time on the beach but certainly noy in pool/sea

that week may be short on bargains as it is my half term.
    egypt?
  • yeh its a nightmare being half term , my girlfriend is a teacher i think she should have to subsidise my holidays as they cost so much more!!

£700 seems alot of spending money for me when im thinking of buying a house next year and going on 2 holidays lol!

goa sounds good i notice it average 90 in feb so thats pretty good, have you been to goa before? who did you fly with? do you know anyone that specialises in deals to Goa? are the prices of food drink etc cheap?
  • also forgot to ask, do you need any injections for Goa and i notice you need a visa?, i presume its safe etc for walking around at night?

Yes you need injections - lots of them (cholera, Hep A, typhoid, tetanus) and malaria tablets (which for a week need to be taken for about 6 weeks in total - before you go, when you are there and when you come back).

It's a long way for a week too and the visa is expensive for just a week's stay. It will take you 3 or 4 days to get over jetlag and get into the Goan lifestyle. Walking around at night in goa can be very hazardous - very few streetlights and crazy drivers who don't use lights!

Dubai is mid 20s (went in 2000). To be honest all I hear of Dubai at the mo is a huge building site with horrendous traffic (a friend has just moved back there after three years back in the UK). A guy I know was in a hotel at one side of a street and it was safer to catch a taxi to cross the road to the opposite hotel than risk life and limb walking across!

Sharm el Sheikh isn't too far, it's warm in Feb and cheap to eat out.
