Hi all

We live in Manchester and are visiting Windsor Races on Monday 24th June 2019. We will be travelling from Manchester on the Saturday morning and hope to stop off on Saturday afternoon/evening at some pubs and a BB/hotel (possibly in Northants/Oxfordshire etc. We LOVE canals and Rivers etc and would be grateful if somebody could suggest a pub/BB/Hotel that is situated close by picturesque canals, rivers or Waterways. Then on the Sunday we want to drive a little closer to Windsor but this time plan to stop in Either Berks, Bucks or surrounding areas and stop over/stay over in a BB/Hotel etc close by another picturesque Canal, River or Waterway.

Nothing is set in stone (and if anyone suggests another county etc that's great too) other than we need to leave where ever we stay on Monday morning and drive to Windsor. Windsor races is on the Monday so we will stay over in Windsor on Monday night.

Therefore, I am looking for suggestions from you guys who live in this beautiful part of the world on Pubs, Restaurants etc that are close to scenic waterways.

Thanks in advance all.

There are a couple of hotels on the Thames in Sonning that are on the river

    and

    http://www.thefrenchhorn.co.uk/

The first has a very pleasant terrace and garden with some little shed/pods which are heated. This is very pleasant although I've not eaten a meal there I've stopped off a few times for coffee while cycling along the tow-path.

The French Horn has a good reputation for food but with prices to match.

I like the Bull; although it is not on the river it is only a couple of hundred yards away if walk through the churchyard.. Warning: If you go on Sunday you risk having to see Theresa May seeking spiritual guidance in the church.
