Old Style Daily Friday 15th February 2019

Options
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

    Morning everyone

I’m having trouble sleeping again, so have given up and got up. There are so many things going around in my mind right now, mainly things that I can’t change but they are preventing me from sleeping.

The coffee morning yesterday to meet the members of a club went well. The group is larger than I realised. It has over sixty members and there were about thirty there. The organiser said that they always have a large number for the monthly coffee mornings but not as many people go to the other events. As I enjoyed it and got speaking to a few other people I’m going to go to one of their events next week.

After a hard frost and fog yesterday turned into a lovely warm sunny day, today is forecast to be much the same so I shall go up to the park for a gentle stroll in the sunshine It will soon be park/coast and people watching season. I’m starting to really look forward to the spring now.

I should do some housework really, but I’m loath to let the good weather pass because we could still get snow and really cold weather like we did last year.

Taff my breast care nurse sent me off to get a tight fitting crop top thing for the same reason.

Specky I vote against the beard, I have always preferred a man to be clean shaven.

Hester I hope that the house sale goes through on the 22nd February for you.

Snoozer hopefully Steve will get the CT scan today and they will be able to find out what is causing his temperature spikes.

AOD hope the meeting went well, and you had a smooth journey.

TRU been thinking of you and the tales of Scampi, I hope that you are ok.

TA such sad news about your DD’s friend. It just shows how fragile life is.

Candygirl hopefully the man coming to look at the fire today will be able to repair it for you cheaply.

TA and Candygirl I bet Nelski is recording the newJames Martin programme, she wouldn’t miss that :).

Whatever you are doing, have a good day everyone.
  • Morning all and thank you for starting today's thread Hollyharvey.

Holly, my friend had to wear sports bras in a crop top style for a while after her surgery. If my memory serves me right, she wore the strongest support one for a while and then graduated downwards. Now she wears bras of her choice, for decorative reasons because after reconstruction she doesn't really need a bra at all.

Snoozer, hoping that Steve will be lots better soon.

Dumpling, nor post sounds positive, I'm sending leg improvement vibes.

Speky, if I were a man, I'd have a beard, partly for warmth and partly because I'm lazy. I do like beards though my OH doesn't wear a beard. When we met, nearly 40 years ago, he had black hair, really curly. Now it is pure white and he can polish the top of his head and if he let his beard grow, he'd look like Father Christmas.

I had a really nice day yesterday. OH took me to my appointment in tge car, 50 miles north and up the motorway. Normally this woukd have been a bit boring but it was the most beautiful afternoon, bright sunshine. The journey there was very easy though we did hit the rush hour coming back. Meeting was very positive. I'm not looking for a job as such but some work to do would be interesting and having spent over 40 years building skills, I don't want the skills to just vanish through disuse just yet. Also, every piece of wirk teaches me something. This would offer the opportunity to do some useful work without being tied to the daily grind. I will have to have a fresh DBS as mine has expired and they will need to take up references so it would be a few weeks before I could start.
Although the journey back was a bit longer than it should have been it was OK and OH stopped off near home and we had fish and chips, a very rare treat. I had two very nice glasses of wine (on a school night, I don't normally drink during the week) and he had beer.
We'd given each other cards and chocolates in the morning and I'd been looking forward to a chocolate after dinner but was too full. However, he and DS managed to polish off the chocolate ginger that I got for him.

Our local chip shop gives massive portions and after I'd eaten all my fish, even though half would have been enough, and 2/3 of my chips, OH told me that it had been a mini-fish and their smallest portion of chips. So either their portion sizes really are wildly generous or I'm turning into a total lightweight in the eating sense, I'm certainly no lightweight in the other sense.

I am hoping for a other sunny day as I have towels in the washing machine. I have the Friday Tidy to do though only a minor one, though the bathroom could do with a blitz, we seem to be back to the herd of warthogs in there (not me).

Thinking of all those who are sad, poorly or worried and I hope that everyone has as good a day as possible.
I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back

Morning Holly and AOD and everyone on the way

I'll join the no sleep gang i was awake at 2am but made myself stay in bed if only for the warmth.

Thick ice again this morning so will need to defrost the car soon so much for 15 degrees would love to just walk out and get in the car for a change rather than freeze my bits off clearing it.

Off to Manchester this morning for a site training so will need to leave daft early thanks to the traffic. Car park gastronomy is ham and cucumber rolls but with this route it could well be traffic jam gastronomy :D Working tonight too so its one of them really long days.

Enjoyed lunch with my friend yesterday I had a big steak and ale pie that was lush and she had something with halloumi :D

As far as watching hubbys afternoon programme then Holly you are spot on. No chance i can watch it when its on most of the time so i tease myself and collect a couple then I can have a binge :rotfl: Kilts I am not so keen on must admit but he certainly rocked that flying suit. :o

AOD good for you for the job ad your valentines dinner sounded just gorgeous :)

Enjoy your day everyone and hope OL is feeling a bit better

    Morning everyone

Hollyharvey - thanks for starting us off x

Hugs to those that want/need one x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

Still pitch black here, frosty too, but hoping it'll warm up to be like yesterday - clear blue sky and brilliant sunshine late morning and into the afternoon. I managed to get a small line of washing line dried too. Will try again today.

DH up and gone to work, DS1 now getting ready for work and DS2 still in his pit, will wake him shortly. He'll help me with the food shopping then go to the gym from there.

Dinner last night was a change to the plan as DH was later in than normal due to an emergency at his work, so boys had fish, chips, beans/veg, I had tuna pasta and DH had breaded chicken portion, chips and beans. The HM pie will be tonight's dinner instead, everything is ready I just need to make the pie filling and cook everything later.

Yesterday was productive I got done most of what was needed, still some to do, I must do some housework etc as we have friends over for drinks and nibbles tomorrow night. I have all day today and tomorrow but would like to get the housework done today so then I can just go out in the morning and sort the food.

    Keep safe and well x

    Morning All

Colder here again at the moment, I was just at the bin and saw a shooting star!

Two weeks ago my blue recycling bin disappeared, I contacted the council for a new one but of course haven't heard anything. Anyway, the original one turned up yesterday, someone obviously realised they had two. I bet the council appear with another one very soon!

Nothing much going on, must do some housework tonight as I have friends coming for dinner on Saturday, at least it will be done for the weekend.

Have a happy Friday, take care. XX
  • Morning folks and thanks HOLLY for the too-early start, It's a bit nippy here but no frost and another sunny day, with 12 deg, is forecast.

I'm into the last half hour before I need waken the DGDs and then let the chaos begin. Lunchbags are packed and at the ready, as are their uniforms.

Text from DS yesterday afternoon to say the hotel was lovely so it seems my gift voucher was not wasted!

Boring day ahead = the usual Friday Tidy. I don't particularly like Fridays! But DB rang me last night to say he and SIL would call up tonight so that will be nice.

SPEKY I like beards in general but it all depends if it suits the face of the wearer!

Well must love you and leave you, rousing time for the girls. Have a good day all and ((HUGS)) as always for the poorlies, sad, worried or lonely, Take care all xx

    Morning all.

It’s lovely to see the dawn coming in earlier than last week. It’s colder than yesterday so need to wrap up again. Yesterday I foolishly decided to light the woodburner, only really for comfort as it wasn’t too cold. That was me ensconced in front of it for most of the day!

Today I’m about to leave the house for Glasgow. I’ve got my car booked in for a service at 10am in Dumbarton. I’ve got a book to read whilst waiting. Then I’ve got contact lenses and glasses to collect in town.

I hope everyone is doing well or getting better. Happy Friday to everyone.

Checking in from the car park :D Not a bad trip at all but apparently now the bit of motorway I was just on is closed for an accident  hope it wasn't my fault ....6 mile jam now....and that is why I leave home at daft o'clock for Manchester I would rather sit in the car park for an hour.

    Sandwich time :)
  • Good morning all

Thank you for starting us off Holly

Specky, clean shaven. I really don't like men with beards a no hair on their heads, just looks wrong.

Thoughts are with all those finding life difficult

Yesterday was so mild, sat in the unheated conservatory for the first time this year as it was 74 degrees. Downside was looking at the garden, so much needs to be done, not sure if I can cope with it, maybe have to find a gardener for a couple of hours a week.

    Take care
