Is the fact that the debt does not appear of my credit file likely to indicate that it is statute barred?

No, the two are in no way related.

...I avoided acknowledging the debt for a while (don’t know how long exactly)...
When do you think you stopped acknowledging the debt and have you subsequently acknowledged the debt in some way?
I work within the voluntary sector, supporting vulnerable people to rebuild their lives.

    I love my job

I don’t think there was a period of 6 years where I didn’t acknowledge the debt

No it's the former that's important not the latter
  • Damn it, I hoped that the fact it does not appear on my credit file meant it was statute barred

I really can’t say whether there was a period of 6 years in which I didn’t acknowledge the debt, before I arranged the repayment plan 2 years ago (after receiving an LBA) so I suppose I’ll keep paying unless there some way of finding out whether it’s statute barred?
  • Any ideas?

You just have to look at when you stopped paying originally, when they terminated the account and when you started again.

You can use subject access requests to HSBC and Shoosmiths to get the details, but if there wasn't a six-year gap there it's not statute barred.

Shoosmiths don't usually buy debts - they are solicitors. Are they acting for HSBC or someone else?
  • I don’t know when I stopped paying or when the account was terminated.

I arranged a repayment plan with Shoosmiths about 2 years ago, after receiving a LBA from them.

Shoosmiths are acting for Arrow Global.
  • I think it’s improbable that 6 years passed without my acknowledgement of the debt.
I’m just confused as to why it’s not showing on my credit file...
