NHS Personal Health Budgets?

Has anyone ever applied or been successful in getting this? It's the same idea as council direct payments to employ PA's except its a separate budget to deal with your health needs which the council doesn't cover such as equipment and therapy.

This applies to people who have spent time in hospital and are being discharged to receive nursing care at home. Not those with general health needs.

Yes we were offered this service but I didn't think we required it as I am a carer however I can offset some of my caring duties to someone else to do other things.
  • I receive a personal budget from social services, this means I get 21 hours support per week. When county hall came around to assess everybody for the purpose to cut hours they applied for NHS personal budget. I receive lots of input from the NHS but they didn't accept me. They said my needs a being met from social services and because I'm on a CTO I don't have to pay for support serviced anyway. Unless you've been on a section 3 or 37 most councils are charging people a percentage of their care hours. I know my housemate I live with has to pay £131 a month for his support out of his DLA. I'm unsure if you will get charges if you have a NHS allowance. I think the NHS are reluctant to give people personal budgets for this reason unless you have sufficient health needs.

People eligable for a Personal Health Budget must be eligable for NHS Continuing Health Care which is notoriously difficult to qualify for
