Boiler repair v replacement
Hi, I have an old (>10yr) Vokera combi boiler. It just had a service and I've been told it has a faulty expansion vessel. The engineer says my options are either a replacement at £460 including VAT and labour) or an external expansion vessel at £300 inc. VAT and labour).
My question is would this be throwing good money after bad? Would I be better off in the long run getting a new, more efficient boiler? How much does a new boiler cost in total (including all parts and getting the thing installed etc.)
Any advice would be much appreciated.
Cheers!

Total cost can be £3K-4K depending on the boiler and whether you choose an expensive installer (e.g. BG).0

Hi,
Another thing to consider is how much has the boiler cost you in repair bills to date?

Argh, that's more than I've seen elsewhere. Did you recently get a new boiler installed?0 -

I’ve had quotes recently for 1,700-2,800 depending on what boiler I want. BG quoted over 4K.0 -

To remove existing faulty boiler, and to dispose of.
For supply and install of new Valliant 438 condensing boiler along with new 8 meter head circulation pump.
To add to central heating system sx300 cleanser, flush system and add sx100 inhibitor.
To connect new boiler to existing heating programmer / thermostat.
To register boiler with manufacturer to obtain extended 5 year warranty.
To also notify installation with gas safe to obtain certification.
Labour and materials.

£1805 for a new boiler 12 months ago, and that included ripping out an old system boiler + tank + cylinder and replacing it with a combi in a new location.
If it's a straight like for like boiler, shouldn't be anywhere near that. Decent new boilers cost from around £800 to physically buy them, the rest is just all labour charge.0
