Someone put nails behind my tyres, what now?

So today at around 10:30 I noticed a bunch of short nails scattered behind my rear tyres, my rear tyres are towards the end of my drive way. If we had to guess then w'd say it had to be done between 7am-10:30am as someone else in my house parks across my car blocking me in overnight and when he left at 7 in the morning he has to walk behind my car to get to his car and he didn't notice anything then. I'm just not sure who would do this to me or whether it's random spite. We've had a bit of an issue with kids in the area recently as we live near a high school but this seems so specific to put nails right behind my tyres.
The only other option is that it was bin day today and the bin bin could have dropped something?
I don't know what to do next now, I've asked about getting CCTV but there are so many strict rules about how it can't point at anywhere public so we wouldn't be able to see the people who did it anyway. Luckily we caught the nails before I drove off but I don't want to have to keep checking my tyres all the time. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what I can do?

It is dark at 7am, they would not notice the nails.
Where the nails scattered or placed under the tyres at an angle?
  • Actually it's not too dark at 7/7:15 where we are but even so, we believe he would have had to step on the nails to get to his car so he should in theory have noticed the nails. Some were standing upright, some were on the sides and one nail was half way up the drive way on its side. We found 12 nails in total but most of them were scattered very close behind my rear tires.

It might be worth getting a motion activated security light, so that if anyone walks up the drive in the dark it'll light up.

If they are randomly scattered, I'd assume it was the bin or an accident, but keep an eye out for a while to see if it re-occurs.

If I were wanting to put nails through your tyres they'd not be scattered randomly around the drive, they'd be place behind your tyres in a position where I could guarantee they'd go in.

I have installed a dash cams front and rear which are motion activated. This has already saved the cost by identifying the driver of a hit and run whilst car was parked.

You should always walk round the car checking for sharp objects and glass placed behind the tyres, like I do. I can kick the tyres to check for a flat at the same time.

Just crack-heads probably, found some nails and think it is funny to cause misery and expense for others.

I get to work at 7am and it isn't dark. A fortnight ago it was.

Kids, or most likely a kid, trying to be clever walking past your house on their way to school. Don't visibly do anything. They'll quickly get bored with the lack of response.
