Can I have mealworms out with a pet dog?

Options
Might be a strange question, is it safe to have mealworms in the garden with our pet dog? Should I worry in case some drop on the floor and she eats one?

Or nothing to worry about?

The mealworms people refer to when discussing wild bird food are almost certainly dried. Wont do the dog any harm

I think nearly all birds like mealworms but those with chicks in the nest particularly appreciate them. It's recommended that they are soaked in water for a short while just to soften them up to make it easier for the chicks to digest. Also when young birds are about, peanuts should be crushed up a bit to avoid choking hazard.

Knowing dogs, I think you're optimistic thinking it will stop at one....
  • I use bags of dried mealworms and buy 5kgs at a time for my hens , ducks and turkeys... My dogs always get a few and no harm done... they are full of protein

Thanks all, was worried as i know dogs cant go near slugs and snails? Just assumed all slimey things (or that used to be slimy or wriggly) was bad for a dog :)

My two dogs have never shown any interest in eating them. Just sniff and walk away.
