Removing / Disputing Late Payments on Credit Score

I have just carried out a credit check on myself , over the past 4mths it looks like I have gone from Excellent to "Shaky". I have discovered this is because British Gas have screwed up my G&E bills since I switched from DD to pay as you go meters. I have been a DD customer for 8 years and never missed a payment it looks since I have changed to pay as you go they have been marking my payments as missed! I have contacted them on numerous occasions and they have assured me that this would not effect my credit rating, I have the transcripts of the conversations. Obviously this is incorrect information and I am completely stressed about the impact this is going to have on me going forward. I've worked really hard to keep a good credit rating, does anyone know how & if I can dispute this or get this reversed???. With Thanks .

  • Ignore the score and rating as it’s not something a lender sees.

Raise a complaint with British Gas and it will go to someone in the UK in their credit department who should be able to fix any erroneous reporting

Yes, if you call them and explain that you have always paid on time and this is a one off and will they consider removing it they might just remove it. Anglian Water did it for me when I was away in France and missed my bill by a month.
    Good luck.
It’s not a certainty but it isn’t impossible.
  • Make the written complaint to British Gas and the problem will be resolved (incorrect markers removed). If British Gas don't comply then you can escalate to the ICO.
