Barrel Bolt or Sliding Bolt for Bathroom Door?

Options
Hi,

Door is not flush to the Architrave so which bolt is recommended for no chiseling being required?

I just like to screwdriver the screws however I am trying to avoid chiseling as that is more complex and skillful you know what I mean for a DIY'er?

Thanks,

In the same situation, we fitted a hook and eye which worked well.

I would recommend that if you need a lock on the bathroom door, it is one that can be opened from the outside in an emergency. It is also better if bathroom doors can be hung to open outwards, so if someone collapses on the floor one can get access easily. Although that is not how the doors are generally hung.

We had the same problem and used a book and eye too. Works fine.

I'd second this. Somebody I know her husband collapsed with a brain aneurism(?) in their toilet. She was able to get in from the outside because of the type of lock they'd fitted.

Ok just to confirm that a hook and eye type is the only type of lock that does not require chisel?

Im looking for a lock that does not require chisel tool and it can be opened by emergency services.

If you have a bolt or hook and eye on the inside, the only way to get in in an emergency will be brute force. You may need the Fire Brigade and an Ambulance in that situation. I honestly caution against it.

The 'eye' bit is only fixed with two small screws - a hefty shoulder to the door should pull them out of the wood.
