We asked 6 other "chartered building surveyors"...in addition to the 3 we asked previously and they ALL denied to do the survey. Finally, i found one through checkatrade.com who agreed to do the survey for 730£ inc VAT. So we went for it.
After seeing their report, as others have mentioned, it was a TOTAL waste. All he did is photographed all issues and put comments under them. Fairplay to them as they just did the job they were hired for.

    Just to be clear...

Was the person you finally instructed to do the survey a Chartered Surveyor, or just an unqualified random "bloke" advertising on a a website?

(A Chartered Surveyor has to be suitably qualified and experienced, and follow the rules, ethics and professional standards of the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors.

A "bloke advertising on a website" doesn't have to be qualified in anything, or follow any rules, ethics or professional standards.)
