Congestion Charge Fine after 6pm
Ive just gone to the post box to find dear Mr Khan has sent me a bill for 250 smackers just because I had the audacity to drive my van on the A1!
Taking a deep breath and joking aside, the fine states that the van was seen at 1842 on a Friday night.
Isnt the congestion charge only applicable between 0700 and 1800?

Is it a congestion charge or is it a low emission zone charge? The latter operates 24 hours a day every day.Ive just gone to the post box to find dear Mr Khan has sent me a bill for 250 smackers just because I had the audacity to drive my van on the A1!

£250 for a van sounds far more like emission than congestion.
What van, what GVW, what age?
The only bit of the A1 inside the congestion zone is Angel-Barbican-St Pauls.
The Low Emission Zone covers the entire London stretch, from the start of the borough of Barnet at Borehamwood.0 -
The penalty for or not paying the correct low emission charge is £250 for vans over 1.2 tonnes providing you pay it within 14 days. Forget to pay and it's then £500. Now that is a nice little earner,0

<shrug> The OP's decision. There's plenty of signage.Ridiculous amount to penalise someone for!

Ooohhhh Bl##dy Hell!
It is an Emissions Zone Charge! Something I knew nothing about. I looked up the congestion charge rules before going on that journey and thought I was OK but now I know what this is all about. I was driving my little 1994 VW Van and this is the thanks I receive! Best of all..... I then drove back up the same stretch of road at 3am the next day... Shall I expect another 250 pound fine tomorrow? What about my trip down the A4 and over the Vauxhall bridge in said van just a couple of weeks ago?!!! Im not going to sleep soundly for weeks! That's potentially 500 quids worth of fines on its way to me!!!!!0 -
Ouch. Yes, the clock resets at midnight so whilst you made one trip into the LEZ, your time there spanned two chargeable days. If the second trip was done in one calendar day, you'll be billed once for that one. If the system's worked, you will indeed receive another £500 in fines.Ooohhhh Bl##dy Hell!

I thought it was to discourage those of us who don't live in The Only Part of The Country That Matters to Politicians from going there in our ancient diesels.
To be fair, if you are used to living in The Rest of The Country That Doesn't Matter, you wouldn't think about the LEZ, I know a couple of people who have been caught out by it like the OP.I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....
