FOUND OLD FILES-Can't open them

  • if its a my documents folder you may have to take ownership of it to access the files - right click -> properties or something like that off the top of my head.
To find out if you have ownership then try copy pasting the files to a new folder. If you don't have ownership it won't let you and you will get an access is denied error message. In which case go to
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/810881
and it will tell you what to do.

There were all sorts of things. It was a "My Documents" folder that I lost and other things that I don't think were essential. The one I really want to open is the list of LABELS for Christmas so I imagine the blank list came from Windows Word documents - one of the drop down menus. I just don't want to start all over again, typing addresses. It was so much easier just sticking the labels on the envelopes. If you are a man maybe you have never had to do this time consuming job, i.e. writing out addresses.

So I hope it does not turn out that no one can tell me how to open this document.

Ok so if you can see the file view its file extension (the three letters after the full stop)
    ie
blahblah.doc has an extension of doc which means its microsoft word document
When you know the extension search on
    http://filext.com
for it and you will know the program you need to install to run it

That's a web page (.htm or .html) and you should be able to open it with a web browser. What did you use to create that file? (If it has anything to do with AOL then I'm not sure what to do, I always tell people not to install AOL software on their PC).
