Saving Regularly

Hi
I'm just about to finish my degree, and am now seriously wanting to start saving towards a house. No plans as to when I'll be buying one yet, but I want to start saving well in advance so I don't have to worry financially when it gets to that stage.

At the moment I've got £900 in a Halifax Websaver and I save £40 a month in a Halifax Regular saver. I'll only be able to afford about £40 a month until September (I'll be working over the summer and using that to pay off my overdraft). From October I'm doing a PCGE and will get £660 a month bursary. I've worked out if I budget well I can save around £250-£300 of that (I'm living with parents so no rent to pay :j )

So I basically want to know if there is a regular savings account for that sort of amount that is better than Halifax's one - preferably with similar conditions to Halifax where it is tied in as far as interest's concerned but if I really needed it I could close the account before the year is up. Also, if there's one I could open now and then increase the amount I save each month in October.

Oh and also, if anywhere can beat the Halifax Websaver (4.9% gross) do post please!

Hope all that makes sense! Any recommendations much appreciated - I looked at Martin's article but it was last updated in Feb so I thought new accounts may have come out since then
Thanks
