    Just be aware that X-O have a £50 account closure fee (I have an account with them, very basic but functional).

    Another low cost option would be iWeb. They do charge £25 to open the account (one of the very few/only who do?)

    The £50 closure fee only applies to their ISA account:

    Agreed insofar as income level doesn't result in you paying no CGT vs paying some CGT. It does make the difference between paying 10% vs 20% though:

    Split the certificate between yourself and your wife before you transfer to XO for sale. If I remember correctly XO will charge a fee to transfer shares from your nominee account to hers.

    You split the certificate by sending it with a completed stock transfer form to the company registrars.
