Just be aware that X-O have a £50 account closure fee (I have an account with them, very basic but functional).

Yes, income level is irrelevant in relation to capital gains.
Agreed insofar as income level doesn't result in you paying no CGT vs paying some CGT. It does make the difference between paying 10% vs 20% though:

Split the certificate between yourself and your wife before you transfer to XO for sale. If I remember correctly XO will charge a fee to transfer shares from your nominee account to hers.I have the physical certificate but am looking at sending it into x-o so it will be held electronically. So, I guess, she could also create an account and then we transfer from one to the other.
You split the certificate by sending it with a completed stock transfer form to the company registrars.
