Ahhh right, I'm learning a bit now, thanks all. I was planning to fit the router in the loft as high as possible, and was thinking an additional aerial would improve the speed for me, now i know it doesnt work that way

If i did place it in the loft, or an upstairs bedroom and was happy with the speed and strength of the signal, would i be better to reconnect everytihng directly to that, such as both Sky boxes, computer, Ring doorbell camera etc, or connect the Huwaei router to my TP Link wifi hub downstairs and still use that for signal?

That would depend on whether you got a usable wifi signal from the Huawei.

If it is working OK now and you're happy with it as it is now just leave alone.

Obviously results vary depending on others using the same site, but aren’t related to signal strength, unless the signal is very weak. These tests were conducted around 10am and 1pm. Data rates are generally better during the mornings and can be very variable after around 4pm.

The speeds we get are generally worse to non-existent on sunny weekends when more people are out and about connected to the local mast (7-8 miles away with no line of sight).

I initially assumed that bad weather would adversely affect the speed but the opposite has proved to be the case.
