Leasehold apartment insurance

When we bought our leasehold apartment, we were given to understand that we needed contents insurance only as the building is covered by the freeholder’s insurance.
Reading through the agreement, however, it appears that the building insurance only covers the communal areas and the structure of the building and not problems within each apartment.
Our contents insurance expires quite soon and we need to know how to cover leaks, water damage, electrical emergencies, etc.
Advice would be much appreciated.
