dla for my daughter

]i am very new on here was wondering if anyone could give advice. my daughter is mild to moderately deaf she wears hearing aids in both ears and struggles without. i do not know if i can apply for dla i have read lots of information and have decided to get the form to have a look. she is 10 years old and she is able. i have looked at some things that they say to put on the form like does she lip read? what she would be like without hearing aids, can she cross the road safely. some i will find difficult to answer as she always crosses the road with me, although i do ask her to tell me when she thinks its safe. i wont let her run off but she can go a little ahead as to far she wont hear me call her.

anyway ask any questions and im grateful for any help. thank you :)

  • Basically she’ll qualify for dla if she requires more help than a ‘typical’ child her age but you have to explain how she needs more help and provide evidence to back you up such as letters from her specialist/doctors and/or teachers. Citizens advice sometimes help to fill in the forms. Good luck

  • The NCDS and RNID may be able to help, but if your daughter has additional care needs compared to another child of the same age, she may be eligible for DLA.

The claim form can be quite intimidating if you have not had any experience with them before. You would be better trying your local advice or support group for assistance. If you cannot get help to complete the form then look at each question as if your daughter
was on her own without support, what would be the difficulties and dangers she might face and detail these in the form. The DWP always say it isnt the condition you have but how it impacts you're daily life. Good luck..
