Buying and planting Tulips "in the green"
Options
hi there was looking at Tulips in B and Q as we never got round to planting bulbs. If I plant them now will they flower this spring generally? I had assumed so but was looking online and it said probably not until next year. Plus should I plant them deeper than usual? This would be in a border. thanks

I would plant them now; chances are you'll get a slightly later flowering. Better to be in the ground than drying out in a bag I would think. If they're cultivar tulips (rather than species) then you'll only get a couple of seasons decent flowering then they tail off. A depth of at least 20cm.

Are you talking about packs of bulbs that were for sale in the autumn abut not sold? If so, they may be dried out after all this time.

Are you looking at the bulbs planted in pots and staring to sprout now. They will flower this year of planted out as normal. If they have been in a sheltered place acclimatise them to the outdoors for a few days before panting out.0 -
hi thanks for replies. Yes I am talking about the ones that are starting to spout - in fact they are about 3 inches tall and outside so suppose they will be ok to plant straight out0
