Think Halfords are confusing 4 digit Car Pass Code required for TECH 2 for Vauxhall with SAAB's version. A code may not be need for a SAAB. There are still some ex SAAB garages around suggest you get the car to one one them who will know more than Halfords.0

Thank you Inner Zone, I will pass the message on. I too was not aware that there were still Saab specific garages around however I have since google'd and can confirm this to be the case. That is helpful.0 -
There aren't Saab main dealers - because Saab themselves ceased to exist in 2010, after a saga of GM trying to sell the company, then deciding they didn't like the buyers and would rather see it closed. Saab UK were part of Vauxhall, GM Europe's UK importer.
Very few main dealers are actually run by the manufacturer or importer - they're all franchises. Some of those will have become independent specialists, and there were already indies out there who have continued.0 -
Or ask your questions on here .................uksaabs.co.uk0

Not heard of the need for a code before on Saab's. I would echo the above advice, ask on the uksaab forum as they are a helpful and knowledgeable bunch....
I also doubt Halfords have the correct specific diagnostic equipment and also would be concerned if they just plan to clear any error codes rather than identify what is actually wrong and fix it!0 -

Thank you AdrianC. I have managed to locate a specialist within the area for OH to talk with. I did not realise that Saab were part of Vauxhall.Or ask your questions on here .................uksaabs.co.uk
Much obliged to you VFR. I had googled prior but the returns were vast and I never knew which site to go to. Maybe my search criteria was not good. Not heard of the need for a code before on Saab's. Thank you WGL, I will try that forum as suggested. In fairness to Halfords they did mention that clearing the code many not be sufficient. I spoke to OH about the diagnostic equipment, they was of the mindset that they would be generic across cars, I think further thought is required and UKSaabs are our starting point.
Much obliged to you all.0 -
Vauxhall is just the UK badge-swap of Opel. Vauxhall and Opel have been part of GM for many decades. GM bought Saab in the early 90s, and everything since then has had a lot of Opel-derived bits underneath.BreconBlodwin wrote: »I did not realise that Saab were part of Vauxhall.0 -

and then...... Opel/Vauxhall was sold by General Motors to........ PSA which stands for Peugeot Societe Anonyme........ which was formely known as Peugeot Citroen.
Your Saab's now French !0 -
Well, no - because even if Saab hadn't been sold to Spyker in 2010, then put into bankruptcy and the remains sold off to NEVS, they wouldn't have been part of the Opel sale. Saab was always run by GM US, not GM Europe, which was the bit sold to PSA.
If Saab is anything but defunct, it's Chinese.
Selling Saab to PSA would have made so much more sense in terms of Saab's survival, but PSA weren't buying. Crazy, because they could have used it for their upmarket cars instead of trying to launch the dismal failure of the DS brand.0 -
Thanks AdrianC
I was a bit tongue in cheek, but your reply did make me laugh with it's extra pedantry !0
