Directx problem on Vista Laptop

Hiya does anyone have any advise on my problem. I have a Vista laptop & am trying to load a game it keeps coming up with 'unable to run directx' I have been onto the intel website & run the latest update but it still won't work. This is the report but I don't understand it - is it relevant?

The actual error message is not unable to run directx its unable to start directx if that makes any difference.

Have you downloaded and installed the latest fixes from Microsoft for Vista?

Have you run dxdiag?

I've just started using Vista, but the appears to be a Application Compatibility issue.

Have tried installing the latest fixes seems to be a problem with the intel graphics adaptor. Do you have any suggestions? how do you run dxdiag?

Start > Run > type dxdiag in the box to see if you have the most up to date version of DirectX.

Otherwise, try running the application in Compatibility Mode: http://www.lockergnome.com/nexus/windows/2007/04/09/run-applications-in-compatibility-mode-in-vista/

Have you tried Compatibility Mode? Don't play any games myself, so have no idea if your system can run the aforementioned game.

Yep have tried it - I think the problem might be due to intel not having any up to date patches? Don't usually play games myself it happens to be the only one that I actually want to play lol
