ASOS Gift Voucher

Hi,
Not sure if anyone can help. I appreciate that this is relatively trivial but we're having some problems with an ASOS gift voucher. Briefly, in August last year my daughter received an ASOS gift voucher from a friend for her birthday. She has only tried to redeem it in the last week - unfortunately it appears that the card wasn't activated in the store from which the friend bought it. Unsurprisingly, the friend doesn't have proof-of-purchase and can't remember where she bought it. We've emailed ASOS Customer Care on several occasions but they say they can't help. Is there anything we can do?
The voucher is only for £20 so, as I said before, I appreciate it is relatively trivial. However, my daughter doesn't think the whole situation is fair so I've promised to see what I can do. Any suggestions welcome. Thanks.

If it wasnt activated then they have no proof anything was paid on the card. The friend could have stolen it. You have no proof otherwise. The fact she has absolutely no clue where she bought it from is pretty telling, in my pessimistic opinion.
I am sorry your daughter doesnt think it is fair, but right now she is basically asking ASOS to give her £20.0 -
Thanks Katrina. I'm sure the card wasn't stolen - it was actually the Mum who bought it - nevertheless I take your point.0

Its been a while since I worked anywhere that sold vouchers, and we had to load them ourselves, they didnt have 'pre determined' values so perhaps worked differently.
However there would have been no way for them to have been charged for without loading the card. It may be that it was bought with a lot of shopping, not activated and not charged for, and went unnoticed.
I cannot see how £20 could have changed hands without it being itemised on the till, which requires an activation. Maybe if the friends Mum is told that the card isnt activated and £20 is lost it may spur her to think more closely about where she bought it. I know Id be pretty mad if Id spent £20 and got nothing to show for it!0 -
Thanks Katrina - that's really helpful. Have to be honest I didn't really know how these things worked practically. I don't really want to go back to the Mum and make too much of it. Knowing her like we do, she'd be so embarrassed she'd be more likely to just buy another voucher. I guess we'll just have to roll with it. I've given the £20 to my daughter now.
Appreciate your help.0 -
The vouchers with a predetermined amount on, you just scan the barcode like any regular item and that activates the card. There's no messing about with having to swipe or key in amounts. Sounds like it wasn't paid for somehow. There's a storm coming, Mr Johnson. You and your friends better batten down the hatches, because when it hits, you're all gonna wonder how you ever thought you could live so large and leave so little for the rest of us.0
