Closed accounts on CRA

Options
Evening all

Can you help please? Back in 2010 I got in to trouble with a couple of Natwest accounts following the closure of my business and missed at least 6 payments with them which impacted my credit score. Back in 2011 I went to court and received a CCJ and agreed to pay back so much a month. From 2011 to 2017 I never missed a single payment and the last payment was made in 2017.

On my credit file, it shows I missed 6 payments even though I never missed a single payment for the last 6years but I'm told I missed contractual and not agreed payments so this is why is still shows 6 - make sense?

I've been told that as I made final payment in 2017 it will stay on my record for another 6 years which means this will be impacting my credit score until 2023 and would have lasted 12 years - surely this isn't fair as if they'd registered a default say on 2012 it would be clear from my record - how do i resolve this and get it off my record?

Thanks for help but I'm trying to get a mortgage and this is preventing me!

It's correct that anything less than contractual payments show as missed or late.

The accounts will drop off your files 6 years from when they defaulted. If they didn't default - although that's surprising if they have a CCJ - ask them to mark it with a default of the appropriate time.

Don't worry about your credit score as that's not anything that's real or that matters. Just focus on the data being right.
  • Hi there. Used to love my ZX81 think I've found some paperwork which is a default notice from 2011. The account history on Noddle only goes back to 2013 (6 years maybe) and doesn't show a default but does show the 6 missed payments. I'm guessing mortgage companies can see this which is having a negative impact on applicaions which is why I think it should be removed. If it did default in 2011 but I fonjsed payments in 2017, have I got grounds to get it removed from my credit file - make sense? What's frustrating is I didn't miss a payment for 6 years but being penalised for payments missed 8 - 9 years ago
  • If it defaulted in 2011 it shouldn't now appear.

Either way, you have strong grounds to have it removed, if the default should have been over 6 years ago.
  • So just to be clear as I struggle with this stuff, even though it shows on my file as a closed account with missed payments, if it defaulted over 6 years ago I can apply for the whole closed account to be removed? If so, how do I get it removed and if it is removed, should my credit chances improve? Thanks again.
  • Start with the CRAs and find out the precise status of whether a default has been registered.

If it hasn't either contact NatWest or escalate a complaint with the CRAs - or both.
  • Thank you.

I’m sure you’re credit report will look a whole lot healthier :T
