The Monese limit for BACS or faster payments in seems to be £40k - did you win more than this amount?

To win that amount I would suggest that at some time you would have had to stake a lot of money too - could you print out your gambling transactions on your Monese account or your Mecca transaction history and send these to Nat West to help you establish your rights to the money?
  • I did win more than that ammount.... but i do not regularly gamble - 25 pounds a month or so at the local mecca bingo hall....

I've given all the info i was given surrounding the win from mecca to natwest

Does that include your stakes? Can you share how much you staked in total since you got back from Oz?

The OP appears to be fixating on address history while there is nothing to indicate that the problem is caused by address history/.
It's true that you don't need to gamble with high stakes to have a big bingo win, for example one of the jackpots.
The problem is clearly being caused by the large cheque deposit and suspicions on the part of NatWest about it. I am also surprised that Mecca Bingo have not been able to be of help. There must be procedures in place so that banks can be aware that large wins from lotteries, bingo websites etc are genuine.
A friend of mine had a largish win (less than you have won though) on Mecca bingo a few years ago. He had to go to their offices in person with appropriate Id and they sorted everything out for him with regard to letting the bank know and were very helpful.
  • Just to reply - the reason I am fixated on the address is that the letter from the bank says "due to the checks we carry out as described in the 'your information' section of your application - we have found you are not eligible for an account"

If my current address and old UK address are not connected on my credit file (they aren't i've now checked) then i can only assume the account is closed under the section of terms thats states "if you give us false information that plays a significant part in us offering you an account?

My concern however is why my money is still with them - you cannot launder money at a bingo hall... the odds to win the game I won is probably over 150,000/1 and costs £2 (what am i doing laundering 50k £2 at a time with the hope of pulling off the near impossoble to get my clean money back??)

Its now that no one knows whats happening and told to wait 30 days - but not asked for info about where my money has come from its just all a but ridiculous - I havent lost my rag with anyone there as I know the money is mine legally but would be nice to have some dialogue to move things along

In which case, I am very surprised you didn't go ahead with my suggestion to get in touch with Mr. Matheson's office.

I would suspect here its the address history that is the problem and the AVU (Account Verfication Unit) has made a decision to close account. If you can prove the funds are ligit I'm assuming the cheque would have come with a letter.

That amount and more can be won at my local bingo club by buying a £1 bingo ticket.
  • Thanks stclair - I also assume the same I have given the bank all the relevant paper work that mecca has provided - my main concern is why does it take 30 days to work out the funds are legit? They hadnt even asked for proof when i provided it...

I'm sure the fact the cheque came from the rank group (who own both mecca and Grosvenor casinos doesnt help) but they are also a customer of natwest... surely this is less than a days work to find out that the funds are legit or are the banks processes so slow that the require a 30 day buffering period to confirm things?
