Car tax by direct debit - when does DVLA update its website

I pay my car tax by monthly direct debit. The 12-month period ends in a few weeks, and as such, the DVLA website states that my tax runs out at the end of February.

I drive for Pizza Hut and need to prove renewal of my car tax to them. I sent the franchisee a screenshot of my bank account showing that a direct debit payment is due on the 1st March, and he forwarded this response:

Thank you for the Renewal CLC application for your driver [me] to drive for delivery using a Car.

Unfortunately we are unable to proceed with your request for the following reason(s):

Sorry the tax has no[sic] been updated on DVLA site. Please send us a reminder nearer the date.

When will this get updated? The insurers need several days notice in order to renew my license, so if the DVLA don't update the info until on or after the 1st of March I will loose out on shifts.

As per most government websites, the facility to contact anyone is completely absent.

My tax was due October last year and the DD payment was taken from my bank on the 2nd October. Presume your monthly payments are taken from your account at the beginning of each month. My Direct debit renews automatically so presume yours does the same. Not sure if this is the answer you're looking for but hope it helps.

You should get an email from them telling you that it will auto renew, and the amount you will be paying for the next 12 months. Can't remember how far in advance I got mine, but pretty sure it was a couple of weeks before the end of the month. You could send them that?

Unfortunately that won't prove renewal like the OP's employer requires.

I could be wrong, but I dont think they will update it until the period starts.

You'd need to do a manual (6th month/yearly) payment to get an early update, I've just renewed mine for March 19 and its already showing paid until March 20.
  • It's now 8 days before the end of the month and I received an email saying my direct debit will be renewed.

I went on the car-tax checker on the DVLA website and it now shows my car as 12 months tax even though they've not taken any money for this yet.

You would have thought the insurers would have been able to advise me that this would happen but they completely ignored my email. I guess it's not the done thing in a multinational company for shop staff to go sending emails to suppliers! (My manager phoned them too but the answer they gave was unclear).

Hope this post can be useful for anyone else with a similar concern.
