I have a Lenovo Yoga 700 2yrs old.
The screen as developed two long black slashes and a large black smudge at the bottom.
Following the line of the black slashes there is a pencil thin white line, it looks like a crack in the screen or scratch but there is no physical damage.
The laptop has not been dropped or anything and has not been moved since it was last use when it was ok. Reboot makes no difference.
Any ideas as to what is wrong?

That's screen damage.
What's happened is - Laptop screens are made up of two thin layers of glass with a dark liquid crystal between them and a layer of plastic on the outside. When the top glass gets broken, the liquid runs and pools - the black areas are where it pools, and the super white areas are those that are empty of liquid
You can verify its screen damage by connecting the laptop to an external TV or monitor, via HDMI if present. If the issue continues on the external monitor its a graphics issue, otherwise its a screen issue.0 -
OK, thanks for that info. I don't have a 2nd screen but I did notice that PrtSc and the snipping tool do not copy the damage so it must be the screen itself.0

Print Screen doesn't on its own prove anything, that only copies what Windows is outputting. Unless Windows is outputting an effect of a broken screen then it won't show up on the snapshots.0

Thanks for that info. The two long black slashes have slowly but now entirely disappeared leaving the black smudge at the very bottom of the screen which is mostly in the unused part of the black taskbar.
Is this improvement likely to be permanent?
The two fine white 'cracks' are still there but hardly noticeable.0 -
If you can live with it, do. Just be aware that a terminal failure will likely occur at some point, whereupon you'll either need to replace the screen or get an external monitor to plug in.0

It probably won't get any "worse" but it won't get any better. All that's happened as I said above is the liquid crystal has drained and it will probably gather in the area at the bottom of the screen as time passes. The white "cracks" are empty liquid areas, they'll stay like that for the rest of the life of the screen.
If you're happy to put up with it, then fine, but it will need replacing eventually.0
