Your score is based on your credit history.

That's a biblical quote I've never heard before.

It seems "Fonz" has left the building, probably back to Al's diner.

So we have Equifax saying lenders use credit scores, some posters saying lenders do and some saying lenders don't
  • Not quite.

You have Equifax saying that they create bespoke scores for some lenders, which is true - do Experian.

You have lenders also saying that they create their own bespoke scores - which they do.

Then you have a few people who believe that the credit scores provided to the customer are used by lenders - which isn't true.

So how was he able to tell me what my Equifax credit score was then?? and what category it fell in? I.e. Fair, Good Excellent etc.
You are seeing this message online as you have a basic account which does not offer any borrowing facilities such as a loan or overdraft. When you applied for your account your credit score would have been to low to be able to obtain a standard account that could support a borrowing facility. Do you know what your score is now?

It doesn't matter what someone's CRA generated score is.
It makes no odds to lenders or anyone else

He wasn’t, you have misunderstood or made it up.
