I have recently purchased a 2011 BMW 320.

Because the car pre-dates Apples lightning connector I get an error message when connecting the phone to the car. (This lead is not supported) It has been suggested that I use a lightning to 30-pin connector adaptor and then connect to the car. I have seen some adaptors for sale but they all seem to specify for charging and data only. What I want is one that can also deal with audio.

Has anyone seen anything available that would fit the bill?

    I have a 520.
I gave up on the above and instead just got the little adapter that lets you plug normal earphones into the iphone, then just used a double ended jack lead to connect the phone to the aux socket of the car.

Put the car audio system on aux and listen away

Andy - would that also provide power to the phone?

@MEM62 - Are you trying to connect via Apple CarPlay? If not, why not just get an adapter that will let you charge the phone (via that socket), and then simply connect the phone to the car via Bluetooth?

PS - Charging and data essentially means full features; the audio would transfer via the USB (data) connection.

Caveat - I'm an Android not an Apple person; what I've said above may conflict with the Apple Universe.

What brand of splitter do you user? I've been looking at these so I can stay on long calls while still charging. However Amazon is replete with dodgy reviews that turn out to be for anything other than the splitter product they are posted under. I'm looking for something that allows either the old Apple 3.5mm EarPods or the newer lightning EarPods to work with fully functional mic.

Thanks for the info guys. It was specifically playing music from my iPhone through the stereo that I wanted to achieve. (The Bluetooth phone facility works very well) It is something I only do occasionally but it would be a 'nice to have' feature. However it doesn't look to be a straightforward thing to achieve without some compromises.

I found a BMW lead that is designed for the job. (@£45-ish) It plugs into the phone and splits into two leads. One being a USB connection and the other a jack plug for the Aux input. This would allow the phone to charge and also connect to the stereo but the phone would need to be in the armrest; which is not always convenient as I am using it as a SatNav so it is usually mounted on the dash.

For the last several years, any car Bluetooth system I've encountered has been able to handle both phone calls and audio/music. (My previous Golf - 2012 reg - could do it, and this wasn't a new model). Are you saying that your 320 won't handle audio via Bluetooth?

Yes, that is what I am saying.

OK - that does surprise me.

    Any use? https://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=515768

The VicTsing item linked in the thread seems to have this as the equivalent on Amazon UK: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Wireless-Bluetooth-Receiver-Hand-free-Cigarette/dp/B01AXUBLR2

Does your BWM 320 have a USB connection at all, or is it solely a 30 Pin Dock Connector?

If it has a USB socket then there is the following accessory from Belkin
