Insurance renewing hassle

Does anybody phone up when they get their renewal price through and bluntly ask for the real renewal price, rather than the inflated quote?
When I get home today its one of my most hated times, home insurance renewing. Phone up, pretend to want to cancel and eventually afer 20 minutes get the price down to something acceptable after being asked if I want to buy this or that extra.
Its just really irritating. Usually stay with the same company though, but its just getting the proper price that seems to take ages.

Yes I did just last week on renewal, straight up said I'd got cheaper elsewhere and could they beat it or I'd go elsewhere. Checked a couple of details and they did, knocked it down by about £25 under lowest quote I had
Sam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:
People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

I shop around online, find a cheaper one, phone if they can match or not, yes stay no cancel, simple.
I also minus the cashback of cheapest quote.0 -
I must have dreamt that insurance companies had agreed to stop taking advantage of existing customers compared to new ones.
I've taken a new motor policy at just over half the price of the renewal, with £25 cashback.
OH has had a flier for house insurance, which is in my name. A very good price, but when I rang them it was more than double.Member #14 of SKI-ers club

Same as I do.
My daughter recently got a renewal quote of £800, she rang them up to point out she could get half a dozen other quotes of £500, so they reduced it to £500.
That's the way they work. Curious but true. They apparently want customers who despise their methods, then are surprised that they have problems with over-inflated claims.
