Lloyds Closed My Current Account!

@jonnygee - I don't think my residency status would be an issue here. I've been living in the UK for nearly 6 years now and have lived in my current home for a year and a half. I've also been very good with my mortgage, making sure I'm within all their guidelines and all payments have been made on time. That's one account I know not to mess around with...
@NewToThe... - Thanks for the reassurance. I was in a bit of a state yesterday when I got the letter and assumed my life was slowly crumbling away...
Coming from Canada and having a bank account for 20 years, never have I thought a bank would close an account. It's taught me a lesson to be much more careful in the future when it comes to following their Ts & Cs. I'll be sure to post an update tomorrow after I have a chat with the bank (and they most likely tell me nothing).
If there are no CIFAS markings on my account, I'll be happy. Life goes on and I've not been all that happy with Lloyds for quite some time now... just could never be bothered to switch but it looks like this may be a push in the right direction. Now to find another bank...!0 -
I would suggest making a switch to an account that offers a cash switch incentive. And if it were me, I would open more than one current account, just in case your new account gets shut down too...(worst case scenario)...you'll have a back-up...I work within the voluntary sector, supporting vulnerable people to rebuild their lives.
I love my job0 -
Hey I have a similar issue so did you find another bank and how has it been ever since?0

The OP's experience won't have any bearing on your situation.
Try opening a new account elsewhere. If that fails, check your CIFAS files.0 -
Just seen this thread for the first time and as an aside to others reading this thread it is not advisable to have your business and personal current accounts (and especially mortgage) with the same banking group.0

Hey everyone!
Apologies for the delay in replying. I actually completely forgot about the thread. Here is my update:
After spending several hours with Lloyds on the phone and getting nowhere, I then went into the branch. After spending several hours in the branch and several more hours with them on the phone to Lloyds customer service, the final result was: "You just have to get another bank account somewhere else outside of our banking group."
The reps at the bank offered me no reason as to why it was closed and were actually very sympathetic as they didn't understand what had happened either. I checked for CIFAS against my name. there were none. My educated guess for Lloyds getting rid of me is because I kept dipping into my unarranged overdraft. Apparently that was enough to get them upset and give me the boot.
Long story short, I closed the account and switched over my personal account to Barclays.
My business account and my mortgage are still within the Lloyds banking group. I guess they don't mind holding onto those more valuable accounts...
My advice to anyone who gets a letter stating their account is going to be closed within a specified timeframe: save yourself the trouble and close the account yourself. Move on to another banking group, as no matter what you say or do, they will never reconsider not closing the account.
Goodbye and goodnight!0 -
