Keeping cards to maintain a fictional credit rating isn’t the thing to be doing.
Keeping the cards and using them monthly to build and maintain a credit history is howeve the correct thing to be doing.
Which card is limited to £125 cashback?0 -
Amex Platinum cashback,
Amex Platinum is £450 a year with lots of benefits id you are high spender who travel abroad a lot.
That's why I use the gold card0 -

I apologise for not being able to read your mind. You didn't mention any other cards in your OP so I assumed that your only credit card was the Santander one you referred to.Verityspinelli wrote: »Hi Chino and others
You all make good points but Santander is not my only ‘other’card.0 -

No my intention was not to berate you and I hope you did not take it as that. Hence I clicked your thanks button, all I meant was you made a good point, if I’d have had one card then your advise would be spot on, you reminded me in your post I had not revealed the extent of credit I already held which is why I quoted your reply. :beer:0 -
Obviously all circs are different but this happened to me this week...
I applied for the platinum cash back card on the 11th and was accepted. Online says minimum limit of £700.
The card arrived today and it’s £6k off the bat. This is the highest initial limit I’ve ever had and was unexpected.
For context. I earn £45k have one other £3500 (£1k balance) cc, a £3k (slightly in it) current account overdraft, a £15k home improvement loan through a credit union and a mortgage with approx 55% equity (house value £225000)
I have one ccj (satisfied 4 years ago and from a default 11 years ago) which drops off in 9 months
My wife, (as a financial associate) has a limited credit history with a similar default into ccj which is historic, paid and dropping off within 12 months.
So £6k for the Amex card is welcome and will be used “everyday” and paid in full each payday.Normal guy

I didn’t think platinum cards had a limit. Mine mentioned “no pre-set limit” in the information that came with it.0

They retain the right to impose ad-hoc limits at their discretion. Unusual spending patterns such as a sudden apparent world tour can trigger it.0

There is a platinum cashback credit card as well as the platinum charge card. As the OP has mentioned a credit limit and cashback it is assumed that they intend to apply for the credit card.John_G_Jones wrote: »I didn’t think platinum cards had a limit.
